Join Director Jude Christian, and Christopher Bailey (World Health Organisation) for an enlivening discussion on comedy and its complicity in the violence of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, as part of our series, The Globe Talks.
Killing her in her own humour: what’s funny about that? Jude and Christopher will discuss The Taming of the Shrew from a health and wellbeing perspective, as a means of exploring the impact of the arts on our physical, mental, and social health.
Christopher Bailey is the Arts and Health Lead at the World Health Organisation. He co-founded the Healing Arts Initiative as part of the Jameel Arts and Health Lab, which looks at the evidence base for the health benefits of the arts. Writer and Director Jude Christian directed Titus Andronicus in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse in 2022 and makes her Globe Theatre directing debut this summer with a cutting new production of The Taming of the Shrew.
This event is part of The Globe Talks, a new series of essential conversations exploring the work we do in relation to the world we live in.
