Elle While directs Michelle Terry in the title role of Richard III in the Globe Theatre this summer. In conversation with Professor Farah, they discuss the themes of misogyny and the abuse of power in the play and their production, and how this interpretation reflects wider society today.
Michelle Terry is Artistic Director of Shakespeare’s Globe. An Olivier Award-winning actress, Michelle has most recently performed at the Globe in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (2023), King Lear (2022) and Twelfth Night (2021). Elle While is Artistic Director of Pentabus Theatre and Associate Artist at the Globe. She directed A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Globe in 2023. Professor Farah Karim Cooper is Director of Education at Shakespeare’s Globe and Professor of Shakespeare Studies at King’s College London. Her most recent book, The Great White Bard, was listed in Time Magazine’s 100 Must-Read Books of 2023.
