Join Artistic Director of Tamasha Pooja Ghai and founder of Tara Theatre and Director Jatinder Verma in conversation with scholar and podcaster Dr Varsha Panjwani and Artistic Director of Phizzical Samir Bhamra in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, as they explore the heritage and future of South Asian Shakespeares in Britain.
Pooja Ghai directed Hakawatis: Women of the Arabian Nights (★★★★ ‘enchanting’, The Arts Desk) in 2023 and Lions and Tigers in 2017 in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse.
Jatinder Verma is widely regarded as a pioneer of British Asian Theatre, and was awarded an MBE for services to diversity in the arts in 2017.
Dr Varsha Panjwani is the host of the award-winning Women & Shakespeare podcast and teaches Dramatic Literature, English and Theatre at NYU London.
Samir Bhamra is the award-winning founder and artistic director of Phizzical and the creative director of the UK Asian Film Festival.
The 2024 Shakespeare and Race Festival is supported by two anonymous foundations.
