Explore the unique playing conditions of our indoor theatre, the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, and develop your craft as a director with this intensive course. Over three days, you’ll have the chance to explore the unique actor-audience relationship of an indoor playhouse and discover how this impacts our understanding of Shakespeare’s texts.
You’ll be introduced to approaches to directing in the Playhouse and work with fellow directors to explore practical ways to create work in this distinctive space, gaining insight in how to plan, research and conceive a coherent vision for a production. The course culminates with each director having the opportunity to direct two actors in a short scene under candlelight.
This course will provide a safe and supportive space to explore, play and connect creatively, guided by our expert Globe Faculty and is suitable for directors with some experience working with Shakespeare.
Directing in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse is only available to registered members of The Studio at Shakespeare’s Globe community. Log in to book or find out more about joining The Studio at Shakespeare’s Globe.
